The world premiere of the up! at the 64th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt is not just the debut of one model. Rather, the world premiere of the two-door up! signifies the beginning of an entire series of cars: the New Small Family. At the IAA, Volkswagen is demonstrating how this family could develop in upcoming years – with no less than 6 exciting concept cars.

| 27/09/2011 I Models Golf Cabriolet and Jetta awarded top five star ratings.
The Golf Cabriolet and the Jetta achieved especially impressive scores in tests for occupant safety at 96 per cent and 94 per cent, respectively. Both vehicles attained top results in all seat positions and regardless of the height of the driver and front passenger. Rating points are awarded based on the results of frontal impact and car-to-car side impact tests as well as a pole side impact test.

Volkswagen has once again won the International ‘Engine of the Year Award’ for its 1.4 TSI engine in the 1.0 to 1.4 litres category. Thanks to the twincharger principle of an exhaust turbocharger and a supercharger, the 1.4 TSI is seen to have especially high pulling power and efficiency. Dr. Hermann Middendorf from Volkswagen Petrol Engine Development accepted the prize at a ceremony in Stuttgart.

Rousing shows on three continents formed the spectacular framework for one of the grandest presentations of the year: Volkswagen's unveiling of the Beetle. And MTV World Stage was there. Immediately after the emotion-packed world premiere in Shanghai, the World Stage Party kicked off at the E-Werk in Berlin, and was followed by the acclaimed presentation in New York City. At the exclusive World Stage Event, the Black Eyed Peas played while the Beetle was being unveiled in the famous Terminal 5.

The Volkswagen bus, like no other car, stands for the spirit of freedom. It debuted over 60 years ago in 1950 with a contagiously simple design. Its internal Volkswagen code name was T1 for Transporter 1. The Germans called it the Bulli, and to Americans it was the Microbus. It was driven on all continents.
